Kicking off what was to be an amazing weekend was an amazing night with Corissa Bragg playing in my living room. This was my second house concert, part of a series I'm calling the Princeton Road Sessions. Not sure why, or if it'll stick, but I am for now.
Once again I was able to bring 20+ friends together to listen to a local, and extremely talented singer-songwriter. I first saw Corissa Bragg when she opened for Shilpa Ray & Her Happy Hookers. We were kinda awed by her and Matt mentioned her as a follow-up to Tom Evanchuck (my first). The light went off and I knew she'd be perfect.
I took off a half-day from work and got things ready, even picked up keg from Great Lakes Brewery (again). Friends brought food and wine, and it turned out to be a pretty decent spread. Tickets were $10, and all proceeds went to the artist, which I think is a pretty good deal.
Corissa settled in front of two rooms of people looking at her, perfectly quite. She said this was the most intimate experience she's had peforming and I can see it. It doesn't get much more intimate that this, which is why I like it.
As soon as her she hit her first soaring vocal, I knew this would be good. Kudos to my house for providing such a great sound for these performances - which sounds like they're professionally miked. She played through two short sets, with a nice intermission in between. Before, during intermission, and afterward Corissa just hung out with this group of strangers as if we've all already been friends.
During her second set, she loosed up a bit and played some of my more favorite songs - including W. 46th & Storer, and that song about Cleveland - which I adore.
I can't wait until the next... The full concert should be posted to my YouTube account soon.
