This was the best show of the trip! I’m now a huge fan of serpentwithfeet - and Apollo Mighty!

Video Day #tzachill
I’ve been listening to Arlo Parks long enough enough that i’s hard to believe that Too Good is still new and now has a video! Syd just released this new video for Fast Car, and did "for the gay Black girls." Declan McKenna gets a visitor in his new video for My House.
Bonus: While this isn’t a stand-out video, I’m always happy to give some love to Basia Bulat, where here she’s asking Are You In Love?

Video Day #tzaupbeat
Starting off with something new today, this video for Darker Place by Rachel Chinouriri is excellent. Loving the new music by The Go! Team, continuing with this video for Pow. Channel Tres is everywhere these days (!) including in this new song & video for Palms with Gus Dapperton!
Bonus: Jake Shears is still working on a new album, but is dropping some retro flair with his new sing/video for Do The Television.

Video Day #tzaupbeat
Actually discovered POSTDATA thanks to 88.7 WJCU, and found their video as charming as their song. This new video for Bussifame by Dawn Richard has me even more intrigued with her new album coming out 4/30. SG Lewis, a previous collaborator with Robyn & Channel Tres, has released his new album, and this video for One More feat. Nile Rodgers.
Bonus: I don’t know how I missed this Rhye video for Black Rain (released 10/20), but here that is!

Video Day #tzachill
Shamir continues to charm and enchant with new music, releasing this new video for Diet. After a string of singles, Arlo Parks just released their new album and this new video for Hope. I also went back and rediscovered some of the videos from her previous singles, including this one for Eugene.
Bonus: Ani DiFranco has been a long time favorite of mine. Looking back at her career, starting in 1990, she’s never been one for releasing videos. But with her creative reemergence, I think she’s being faced with the importance of visual representations for the music, and has now starting making videos. I’ll be honest, I’m not actually a big fan of the video - but hey, it’s Ani.

Jamila Woods just released a new song video for SULA hardcover, which was inspired by the late Toni Morrison and her novel Sula. Sufjan Stevens has finally released a full proper album to much acclaim, and this is a heavy new video from that album. Kevin Morby continues to hit all the right notes, including in this video for Wander feat. his wife Katie Crutchfield (of the band Waxahatchee).
Bonus:
"Paris-based Mathematic Studio produced a lovely animation for Bob Marley's timeless 'Redemption Song.' Directed by Octave Marsal and Théo de Gueltzl, the work draws heavily on imagery and iconography surrounding Ras Tafari, aka Haile Selassie, as well as the pan-African and diaspora political movements."
(Via Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" gets a beautiful hand-animated music video / Boing Boing.)

Disclosure announced their new release, ENERGY (out 8/28), with their typical outrageous video - pleading with us to “not f*ck up My High.” Glass Animals also announced a new album, Dreamland (out 8/7) by releasing this socially distant video for Heat Waves. Little Dragon just released this semi-montage video for their smooth new track “Where You Belong."
Bonus: This new Thundercat video for Dragonball Durag is fabulously fashionable. In it I noted the band HAIM (with a great new album out), and then found this: "new clip follows Thundercat as he attempts to woo special guests indie sibling trio HAIM, R&B singer Kali Uchis, and comedian Quinta Brunson."

KAYTRANADA is leaving it all on the dance floor in their new video for Need It feat. Masego. Charlie XCX finished up her quarantine album, and released this quite satisfying green screen video for claws. I recently discovered Boniface, and am really loving their 80’s inspired feel of their single and video for It’s A Joke.
Bonus: Local synth rock heros, Key to the Mint released their new video for Factory.

Moses Sumney self-directed his beautiful new video for Cut Me. I’m excited to see Sondre Lerche has a new album coming out (Patience, 6/5/20) which was announced alongside this new single and video for You Are Not Who. Baths just announced a new b-sides (Pop Music / False B-Sides II, out 5/29) with is new fashion-forward video for Mikaela Corridor.
Bonus: I continue to be intrigued by all the widely varying new stuff coming from Alex Ebert, such as his ability to skate so well in his new video for Stronger (Future Suit Mix)

STRFKR should win best location for their video for Deep Dream. Channel Tres is a close second with their vintage video for Weedman. Glass Animals have been dropping a couple singles & videos lately, this new one is for Your Love (Déjà Vu).
Bonus: I hate to admit that I have a bit of a crush on Finneas, particularly in his new video for Let’s Fall In Love for the Night.

Hot Chip’s most recent video for Positive is… fascinating. Declan McKenna caught my attention with his last (but not first) album in 2017, and I’m glad to see him back with this new video for Beautiful Faces. KAYTRANADA is looking for their 10% in their groovy new video.
Bonus: This new Charlie Parr song is a foot-stomper. I guess I wasn’t expecting Charlie (who I saw and LOVED at Nelsonville) would be the type of artist to put out music videos, but he hit this one out of the park. The visuals on this are phenomenal. I hope he comes to Cleveland sometime soon!

Video Day #tzachill
Blood Orange has a new video for Dark & Handsome, featuring none other than Toro Y Moi. Kele Okereke released his new video for Guava Rubicon with this message: "The Black woman is the most maligned figure in today’s society and I wanted to make something that celebrated her smarts, her sexiness and her magic.” Yoke Lore continues to charm me with his steady release of videos, most recently with this video for Body Parts.
Bonus: I’m still riding high after seeing Toro Y Moi live in Detroit, and wanted to share his newest video.

Toro Y Moi (11/2/19)
Another month, another trip to Detroit for a concert. This time I was seeing Toro Y Moi performing at the Majestic Theatre, which is in the same complex as Magic Stick where I saw Moon Boots. The trip was so structurally similar that we ended up staying at a different Air BnB, but on the same exact street! The only other parallel I’d be able to draw was that they’re both upbeat and danceable shows. However, this Toro Y Moi show was on another level. I’m not just talking the size of the venue, but that Toro Y Moi continues to generate a catalog of music that only gets better. His last official release, Outer Peace, was epic. He also just released a mixtape and a short film just days before this sold out concert. He and his band sounded on point, with a good mix of music from throughout this extensive catalog. I highly recommend checking out the video footage I captured.
Opening for Toro Y Moi is LA based dance artist Channel Tres. I first caught wind of his name on a remix from Toro Y Moi. While I enjoyed what I heard leading up to this show, their performance blew me away. I already knew I liked his house beats backing his vocals, but pairing that with a vibrant stage performance with two amazing dancers - it all really shined. Check it out below.

Video Day #tzachill
I recently posted Sudan Archives being the album of the week, and she is back again with her violin (and snakes!) for her Glorious video. Frazey Ford is getting a little help from her friends in her new video for The Kids Are Having None Of It. Yuna partners up with Tyler, The Creator for her classy video for Castaway.
Bonus: Sindri Már Sigfússon has been incredibly busy lately, with a new Sin Fang album out in a couple weeks - and now surprise dropping a new Seabear single and video, 9 years after their last album.

Video Day #tzachill
If you haven’t heard Sudan Archives first two EPs, do yourself a favor. She also just released a new album, Athena, along with this video for Confessions! ● I wouldn’t normally put Galcher Lustwerk in the chill category, but this is such a smooth groove. This Cleveland-raised artist has his new album, Information, out on Nov. 22nd. ● 4AD recently released Neon Brown by an artist named Velvet Negroni. It’s an incredibly interesting and dynamic album worth checking out, as is this new video for ONE ONE.
Bonus: Going in a COMPLETELY different direction for this video day, Sin Fang released their first new music video in awhile. A series of their home movies from a time with camcorders and no cell phones. It’s also fun to witness their boyish (and quite dangerous) Icelandic antics, which extend well beyond the length of this song. New album Sad Party is out 11/8/19!

Video Day #tzaupbeat
I somehow stumbled on this Mando Diao video for Long Long Way, featuring this troubled wolf who you just can’t help sympathizing in the end. It’s an incredibly catchy song too! Son Little won me over when I saw him perform at the Beachland back in 2016, and continues to do so with this new single “hey rose” off his new EP coming next Friday! The Chromatics dropped a surprise album recently and it’s total pop confection, like their video for You’re No Good.
Bonus: Cerrone has been seeing a resurgence in his career, starting back in the 70’s & 80’s as a France-based disco producer, who I’d put in line with Giorgio Moroder. He just dropped a new video for The Impact that included this note: "Big Thanks to the amazing Jane Goodall : "Every single day we make some impact on the planet. We haven't inherited this planet from our parents, we've borrowed it from our children. If we get together, then we can start to heal some of the scars that we've inflicted." "

Angel Olsen recently released this beautifully epic video for her new single, Lark. Alicia Keys new video for Show Me Love feat. Miguel caught my attention, and I’m glad it did - it’s gorgeous. Milky Chance continues to put out some quirky, bright reggae-influenced singles like The Game.
Bonus: A couple weeks ago I posted a couple bonus videos from Alex Ebert, and will to do so again because this “home video” for Her Love is stunning.

Video Day #tzachill
FINALLY getting some new stuff from Sin Fang with this video for Hollow (and hoping for an album soon). I was able to catch (part of) a great set by Whitney at the Pitchfork Music Festival, and am also enjoying their new video for Used To Be Lonely. FKA Twigs just released this slow jam video feat. Future for holly terrain.
Bonus: Apparat just release their new video for Heroist, with the following description: "The Berlin-based musician enlisted UK Music Video Award winner Matilda Finn to present a creative response to his restless, snare-driven track. What unfolded was a sci-fi dream sequence made of hundreds of flickering clips expressing human ecstasy and pain."

St. Paul & the Broken Bones (8/31/19)
I made a last minute decision to head down to Columbus to catch a Midwest Fresh party, but prior to I met up with some friends at this free St. Paul & the Broken Bones performance in the Columbus Commons! I was able to see them at a previous Nelsonville Music Festival and really appreciated their performance. However for this one, it was mostly about party with friends I don’t see often. Still - I caught some pics & video!
