I was fortunate enough to be offered a free ticket and backstage pass for this Brothers Osborne show. As you might imagine, they hadn’t really caught my attention until after T.J. Osborne came out as gay. While there was some push back, I’m happy to see that Brothers Osborne continue to succeed in the country music space. They put on a high energy show and T.J. knows how to play to his crowd. :-) A fun time indeed.
This show wasn’t originally on my agenda, until the $25 LiveNation special came about - and I had family coming into town to visit. It was a perfect opportunity to take my Sister and Niece to see a fun show at a great downtown music venue. We even scored floor access wristbands!
Drayton Farley has been one of my favorite country artists of late. A little surprised to 1.) see him performing at Mahalls, and 2.) that so many folks were at this show! He sounded great and hope to see him at the Beachland next time around.
I was thrilled to see this alt-country double header happening at The Winchester Music Tavern with The Deslondes and Esther Rose performing! I’d really been wanting to see The Deslondes for some time, really enjoying how all members both write and sing the songs. I shouldn’t have been surprised to see they also have a dog hanging around on stage during the performance.

A chance to see The Chicks with Patty Griffin opening, at Blossom Music Center? Yes please. As always, sitting on the lawn with friends is delightful.
Beachland started getting into the pandemic concert game, with seats with big clear plastic dividers. It didn’t help the sound, but again - anything it takes. This was a wonderful night of live, and mostly local (or formerly local) artists. Both Joe Wunderle and Austin Stambaugh were really enjoyable - and of course both were backed up by the venerable Cory Grinder and the Playboy Scouts!
A recent TZA favorite, Khruangbin, released this touching video for So We Won’t Forget. I just discovered Olivia Dean and really love her rich, soulful voice on this new single for Crosswords. Orville Peck is back with a new single of an upcoming EP, showing us there is No Glory In The West.
Kelly Lee Owens released this *heartbreaking* new video for On.
Remember me talking about enjoying a good montage video, kudos to Orville Peck and his new video for Nothing Fades Like The Light. Brendan Maclean, my favorite queer Australian musician, has his new video out for Goes Without Saying. I couldn’t agree with Toro Y Moi more, with his new video being released for New House.
Bonus: I somehow stumbled on this new video for Sam Doores for Let It Roll. I suspect it was because if follow New West Records YouTube RSS feed, but I guess this is the reason I do. And i need to say that montage videos are a complicated genre that is often hard to get right - but Sam pulls this off in spades. I couldn’t be more intrigued by his new self-titled album coming out on March 13th.
Orville Peck continues to dominate the gay country singer market, granted it is a pretty small field. However, his non-stop touring has really garnered a strong fan base, as evidenced by recently selling out Mahalls a few months ago - and this time the Grog Shop. I had missed out on tickets on this show, until a friend came through with some extras. I already had plans, but still swung through to see what all the buzz was about.
I get it. He’s got that country crooner vibe down, his mask hiding his identity is intriguing, and he’s definitely not your typical country singer. It’s country camp almost - but I’m here for it. More about him below.
