Saint Motel is one of those bands from the mid 2010s that I enjoyed but never got to see live. While I continue to avoide House of Blues when I can, I did appreciate also getting to see Brigitte Calls Me Baby who had been recently recommended to me by a friend. It was still a decent show, which you can tell by the excitement of the audience in the video!
Brigitte Calls Me Baby was cute, and would like to see them in a different venue sometime.
Just catching up with this show. I was thrilled to get a call to attend this small private performance of 3 great local musicians. We thought it was going to be canceled, but after a rain delay and a change of venue, the sky parted and the sun came out! Cory Grinder, Jen Maurer, and Stephen 'Tebbs’ Karney are all individual performers who pulled together to perform some great folk music, pulling out some old timey songs, as well as a cover of Reba’s Fancy! It was such a delight.
The deep winter months are a slog, primarily because of the dearth of concerts available to attend December - February. While there have been a few great ones, I’m often looking for anything. I was pretty excited to see Whitney at the Beachland Ballroom, but with it being a nearly sold out Ballroom show, I opted for seeing Tall Heights (again) in the Cambridge Room at the House of Blues. This decision was also made in part because I was curious to see Victoria Canal open.
Victoria is an up-and-coming pop artist out of Los Angeles. While she has yet to release a full-length album, her recent singles have been quite enjoyable! She was upfront with the audience about the excitement/nervousness of finally playing in front of people. Getting a glimpse into her authentic feelings like that was refreshing. I’ll be looking forward to a proper album release.
As for Tall Heights, I always enjoy their sound.
I’m back from several back-to-back trips and ready to get caught up! Right before I left, I was able to swing by the House of Blues Cambridge Room to catch Oliver Hazard (TZA House Concert Alums!) coming back to town and opening for the Michigan Rattlers. It was great to see the crowd really getting into these guys.
Michigan Rattlers took the stage, but I wasn’t able to stay for much of their set. They sounded pretty good, but seeing them in a more conducive venue for their sound would be better.
You can actually catch both of these bands at Oliver Hazard Day back over in Waterville, OH if you’re up for a little road trip!
