The Brother Brothers will draw me in to see them every time. They are such a cool couple guys, having already seen them at Nelsonville Music Festival, and then performing with Courtney Marie Andrews. This time one-upped those experiences by getting to see them in the intimate GAR Hall in Peninsula. A great seat, for a great nighti of music!
The venerable and always lovely and humorous Dar Williams. Seeing her perform at GAR Hall was a true delight, especially getting to experience the new expansion room & bar at the venue.
Dead Horses is one of my favorite folk duos, and I’ve been able to see them perform at some of my favorite local venues (Beachland Tavern, Kent Stage) and I was thrilled to add GAR Hall to the list!
This show by Anna Tivel & Maya De Vitry at GAR Hall in Peninsula couldn’t have been any better. You may remember me gushing about The Stray Birds over the years, and my favorite part about the band was Maya De Vitry. I was thrilled to see her striking out on her own with a new album and this tour. I was unfamiliar with Anna Tivel, but listening to her, she instantly won me over. Put these two together at this location on a crisp Fall afternoon - perfection.
These ladies intertwined their sets for the night, playing on each others songs, harmonizing, but also allowing for some solo time on stage. Both ladies were extremely entertaining, insightful and creative. However, their voices and approaches differed, but with full complement. The only thing that could have made this show better was to partake in a bottle of wine and fresh, hot cookie. Next time…

Finally my first trip down to Peninsula, OH for a concert at the GAR Hall! How ridiculously charming. That feeling was only accentuated by seeing Joe Purdy and our own Roger Hoover in that space. I’ve seen Joe Purdy before (2017 & 2011), and I can’t get enough of his excellent songwriting. So much so, I too several videos of this show.

Roger Hoover opened the show, who’s a local artist who I’ve been following shortly after getting to town. I couldn’t have asked for a better pairing, or a better location for this show.
