The Outlaw Music Festival (9/15/17)

I’m almost embarrassed to admit that my attendance to this show was hinged on a  Groupon deal.  Honestly though, I’ve already seen the Avett Brothers a couple times, Sheryl Crow is a fond throwback to my Lilith Fair era but not a major draw, and Willie I respect as a legend - but not one I need to see live.  Still - a great experience - and a great group of friends to experience it with!  (real reviews below.)

"As one of the pioneers of outlaw country, Nelson was essential in fusing elements of rock and folk that would produce some of the most essential music of the 1970s and 80s. Nelson's music and activism would make him a true American icon.

Thus, fans are lucky to still have Nelson, at age 84, touring the country with some of his favorite musicians and fellow legends.

On various dates, the Outlaw Music Festival has featured Nelson with the likes of Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Eric Church, My Morning Jacket and Jason Isbell. Friday night's show at Blossom showcased a diverse lineup of young and old acts. And the crowd was a lively match."

"The Outlaw Music Festival has brought together the likes of Bob Dylan and My Morning Jacket in the past, but to hear the Avett Brothers come out for the close of the show to sing 'Will the Circle be Unbroken' and 'I'll Fly Away' was possibly too much. The entire venue smoldered like some sort of spiritual revival. People danced in the aisles. People smiled. It felt like this music was meant to make life better, if only for a little while.

At the end of the night, there wasn't much talking from the stage, just a sincere 'thank you.' And then Willie left. No encore. Only the sound of roadies beginning to tear down the stage. Someone helped Bobbie off her piano bench and she slowly walked out of sight."
