Passion Pit (9/28/13)

It was the big Homecoming / Alumni weekend at Case Western Reserve University and the big free concert was Passion Pit.  This show was held in Veale, which was my first time seeing that space used for a concert.  Other than the mile-long line getting in (and no alcohol service), it was  great experience!  Passion Pit really filled the space and put on a great show.  It's amazing that the last time I saw these guys were on campus with about 20 people watching.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (9/26/13)

This was a co-headline bill with Stars, who is a band I also enjoy.  Though the last couple times I've not been a huge fan of their live show, so this night was really all about Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.  I really can't say enough good things about this band… I love their music, his voice and their energy.  A great dance band…  Check them out.

And check out some pics of poor Waterloo taken on our way to the venue.  Can't wait until this is done.

Lucy Wainwright Roche (9/25/13)

A surprise performance at a friend's house, Lucy Wainwright Roche stopped by Avon, OH on her way to her performance at Oberlin.  Having missed that announcement, I was so happy to catch her on this night.  Having already seen her father, brother & sister… I can almost say she's my favorite out of her musical family dynasty.  Funny, insightful, and an angelic voice.  I can't wait to see her headline a show at the Beachland Tavern sometime (or maybe my own house concert!!)

Ani DiFranco (9/22/13)

Speaking of family and shows… Ani's back on the road and stopped at the House of Blues (Beachland next time please!!).  She was every bit as good as the other couple dozen times I've seen her and feels like family at this point.  She played some new stuff and it's sounding great!  Looking forward to another new album!

Blue October (9/19/13)

One day after a show with Mom, my cousin came into town for the Blue October show at the Beachland. Man, this guy has some strong emotions…

Michael Bublé (9/18/13)

Just another concert with Mom… This was quite the spectacle to watch, which I wasn't really expecting with Michael Buble - though for the price I paid for these tickets, I should have.  He has a magnetic personality and a great voice… but he was bordering on a really expensive cover band.  :-/

Article: Peabody's set to move into Agora

I guess I should have seen this coming…

Peabody's set to move into Agora | Scene and Heard: Scene's News Blog

"Peabody's set to move into Agora Posted by Jeff Niesel on Wed, Sep 25, 2013 at 5:26 PM

Well, it turns out the club will indeed close at the end of October and move into the Agora. Just this week, Peabody’s released a schedule of events that includes four or five shows a week at the Agora starting with a Pelican show on Nov. 1.

‘We’re not messing around. We’re going to hit it hard right away and we have a nice full fall calendar,’ says Zitterbart, adding that he’s unsure if he will retain the Peabody’s name. ‘The Agora has a historic place in Cleveland’s music history and the fact that Hank has created such a recognizable brand name is appealing. I’ve owned Peabody’s for eight years now and when we close, it will be bittersweet. But the opportunity to start over with the Agora name is pretty cool.’

Zitterbart says he’s already begun making improvements to the venue and has just installed radiant heat in the theater. ‘It will be a significant upgrade from what we’ve seen in the past,’ he says."

Brite Winter Festival Date Announced!

Put it on your calendars!!
BRITE WINTER fest set for February in Cleveland's Ohio City area, now accepting band submissions
BRITE WINTER fest is coming back in 2014. The growing music and arts and food fest –one of the, er, brightest spots of our Cleveland winters - will take place on Saturday, Feb. 15. The fifth fest will again take over Ohio City's Market District area.
The 2013 festival attracted 20,000 attendees, according to organizers, with 48 bands on seven stages. There were also 15 art installations.
This year, they hope to expand even more – and now's your chance to be a part. BRITE is accepting music submissions till November 18. Interested bands can apply at Sonicbids.com/britewinter, to fill the estimated 50 showcase slots. Past BRITE performers include The Floorwalkers, Thaddeus Anna Greene, The Lighthouse & The Whaler.
BRITE organizers also hope to expand the art portion this year as well, with 20 art installations, planned in conjunction with The Cleveland Museum of Art and the Cleveland Institute of Art. Said Plain Dealer reporter Michael Heaton of the 2013 BRITE fest: 'The Brite Winter Festival is easily poised to become Cleveland's answer to something like South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, or Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tenn.'"

Caveman (9/6/13)

This is the second show in a row where a full, fun evening was capped off by a show at the Beachland Tavern.  Lots was happening on Friday… the Great Lakes 25th Anniversary Block Party, the Roar along the Shore, and then Walk on Waterloo with Caveman performing at the Beachland Tavern.  You can guess what I chose.  Having seen Caveman twice early in 2012, they're back with a new album and I was excited to see them perform again.  But first, there was dinner at The Bratenahl Kitchen, which was delicious.

We swung by a friends Gallery opening, then ended up at the Beachland where I guess we caught the beginning of the Hedgehog's Dilemma.  Uh… I'm not sure I can say much nice about these guys.  The vocals were not. good.  We ended up escaping out of the show as much as possible.  Now, it could have been blamed on some odd sound problem, because I have to say the vocals for Caveman weren't all that good either - but they were still enjoyable.

Cavemine (9/6/13)

Snowmine (8/30/13)

This show wasn't even on my radar, until the day before.  I had already been planning on Cleveland's Critical Mass bike ride.  I also found some other friends going on the ride were planning on hitting up a show at the Ballroom (Wesley Bright & the Hi Lights).  Not being a huge fan, I checked the tavern performer and was liking from what I heard from Snowmine.  That made for a perfect planI  I could catch the pre-Mass ride on the way from the destination, to the starting point, as they rode right in front of a friend's house that lives near the Beachland!

Well, we caught the early (and very fast) group, but didn't quite make the whole trip, stopped at the Stallion for a drink, then went back to Collinwood and finished off the night biking around the area for dinner, where we were able to catch the tail end of CCM!  Ending with Snowmine was just the cherry on top of an excellent night.  I can't say they were amazing, but these guys brought a great energy to the stage, which is always fun to watch.  They have some new stuff coming, that they were trying out.  Sounded good!  Looking forward to the new album.

Snowmine (8/30/13)

Geographer (8/28/13)

This was a pretty incredible show, probably made-so since Geographer's album had been tops on my playlist for the past month.  What really stuck out to me on this performance was the focus on the vocals  of Michael Deni.  Check it out below.
