Video Tuesday

First we have an eclectic new video for Sharpteeth (a great song) by The Octopus Project. Next up, new Deer Tick(!!) with an intense video for The Rock.  Finally, Mumford & Sons were definitely having fun with their new video for Hopeless Wanderer.

Bonus is a slightly older video I hadn't posted yet - but didn't want you to miss. The Golden Filter's Mother. Whoa.

Tomorrow: Geographer @ Grog Shop

Some mentioned that I should check out this band Geographer - and that they were coming to town -  within minutes of hearing them I knew I wanted to go to this show.  Check out their new video for Kites below.  With GRMLN opening, plan on getting there early(er).

Video Friday

CHVRCHES is sticky sweet with their new Mother We Share video. Next up is Austra's 80's B-Movie inspired video for Painful LIke.  Finally, some more retro goodness with MS MR's Think of You (who are coming!)

Bonus… Speaking of the 80's, check out the found-footage video for Jamie XX's remix of their song Sunset.

Sea Wolf Kickstarter

Despite my being a little salty that I haven't been able to see him live yet (come to Cleveland already!), I'm still excited to hear that Sea Wolf has fulfilled his contract and is putting out something new… Glad I could help.

Quiet Company (8/12/13)

Oh yeah, there was also this show in New York City.  I was there for work, but was able to squeeze in a show at Mercury Lounge.  A venue that easily recognized the name and wanted to see - and had my best shot for a good show to just show up at.   I thought I was seeing Little Comets, but turns out they were way earlier in the night.  I ended up catching the end of Quiet Company - who put on a *great* rock show.  Passion, openness, humor… looks.  These guys had it.  I know nothing about them recorded, but would see them again in a heartbeat.

Video Tuesday

I continue to be thoroughly charmed by Sea Wolf.  Fiona Apple's intense new video for Hot Knife is great - and Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. Finally, a little surprise by Au Revoir Simone with a classy new video for Somebody Who (not to say they're not classy ladies).

Bonus, an interesting video from one of my favorite Pitchfork Music Festival artists, Glass Candy.  Her music can be quite phenomenal.

Melissa Ferrick (8/18/13)

I'm not sure I can count how many times I've seen Melissa Ferrick, though I can guarantee that most of them have been at the Grog Shop (old location, and most before I started blogging).  However, this past Sunday night, she was as good as ever.  A mix of a band and solo performances - she was a sharp and charming.  And sounded phenomenal.  I hadn't paid much attention to her newer stuff, but I should re-think that.

I also had to record one of my classic faves.

Paul van Dyk (8/7/13)

OK, one more.  The hopes couldn't have been higher for this particular evening.  While this show was mid-week (on a Wednesday night), it was the night before a camping trip so I was easily able to stay out late!  This was also at a downtown venue that I'd never been to - one that was hosting an internationally renown DJ.  I was pleasantly surprised at the informal nature of Liquid, and the sound & lighting system.  I was even enjoying the French DJ opener.  However for Paul, it ended up being a little too repetitive to enjoy dancing to (unless you know, inebriated).  Still, a great night out downtown with friends - so absolutely worth it.

Wampire (8/3/13)

Oh geez, another sub-par experience.  For a busy week of music, luck wasn't really on my side.  However, it didn't matter on this evening, because the night ended up being all about hanging with old friends and having a blast, the concert was just a destination.  Now this isn't really anything against Wampire per se.  It's just this Double Happiness joint in Columbus was not the right spot for these guys.  The sound was *awful* and blown out.  It seriously sounded better outside on the patio - where we hung out.  The night couldn't have been better.

Drew Gibson (8/1/13)

Finally a reprieve with an "old friend" - seeing Drew Gibson on a *GORGEOUS* evening at the Barking Spider.  These two were made for each other.  Some friends even made a surprise appearance, topping off the night.

Drew Gibson (8/1/13)

Have I mentioned lately how much I love the Barking Spider?

Father John Misty (7/31/13)

Ugh, two meh. reviews back to back.  No wonder I've been avoiding this…  The second of the Rock Hall Summer in the Concert Series shows was Father John Misty.  On this gorgeous evening, the show was moved inside on the earlier chance of some rain.  It just wasn't the same.  The sound was not great, the place was *crowded*, and you could only long for the days of wandering outside around the open plaza.  So much so that really the best thing for me this night were the photos.

Wild Nothing (7/30/13)

I think that while I've been super-busy, one of the things I find myself getting hung up on are lack-luster reviews.  I had extremely high hopes for this Wild Nothing show at the Grog Shop.   It was… OK.  I guess I was most disappointed in the quality of the vocals… maybe these guys are just better recorded.  You can see what I'm talking about below.
